In recent years, green has been loved by the brand watch enthusiasts. In the 2019 Geneva exhibition, green has become one of the hot colours. Montblanc also uses green as the main colour of the new 1858 series timepieces, using the mountain adventure spirit as a source of inspiration, khaki green, and bronze to create an amazing spark. The new Montblanc 1858 collection includes classic models, automatic chronographs and the Geosphere world-time watch. The overall model is finished with a green face against a bronze case. In order to meet the modern aesthetic, the strap uses a NATO woven strap. Let’s take the automatic chronograph as an example to enjoy this year’s new model of Montblanc 1858. The name of the 1858 series comes from the years when Charles Ivan Roberts founded the watchmaking workshop. This series of models inspired by the Minerva professional military watch and the mountain adventure watch from the 1920s and 1930s. This year’s newly released 1858 timepiece features green as an element to echo nature. It is equipped with innovative and practical functions, which provides a good choice for enthusiastic adventurous people. The new model reinterprets the idea of going outdoors and returning to nature, which brings us different experiences and feelings in harmony with nature. The bronze case is a favourite of many watch addicts. Due to the characteristics of bronze itself, the watch has a retro charm. The 2019 designer wristwatch of the Montblanc 1858 also expresses its style in the bronze case. The surface of the case is polished and satin-finished to reduce the effects of accidental scratches on the watch’s appearance. The curved chamfer lugs are elegant and natural. The bronze crown is engraved with a polished hexagonal star logo and is designed with non-slip texture to ensure the convenience of the adjusting time. Timing buttons are provided on both sides of the crown to control the timing device. The colour of the khaki green gradually deepens from the centre to the outside, highlighting the gradual effect. The dial design follows the classic design of this collection, such as the cathedral-style hand of “Cymtech”, the beige Arabic numerals with Super-LumiNova® luminous coating, the classic rail-shaped minute scales and so on.The two sub-dials are symmetrically distributed at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions. The NATO woven strap, which complements the dial, comes from a traditional French weaving factory with a long history. The strap is sturdy and durable, and it is extremely comfortable to wear. After 500 hours of simulated wearing, the watch has passed special tests under extreme conditions and is water resistant to 100 meters. It is equipped with an MB 25.11 self-winding movement with a flat ring and a flat spring with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The bronze-plated titanium metal back is specially engraved with the refined pattern to pay tribute to the mountain adventure spirit.Summary: The new 2019 Montblanc 1858 timers are limited to 1858 pieces. Years Left Traces Showing Retro Style
The retro design of the Montblanc 1858 series timepiece is rooted in the professional military timepieces of the last 1920s and 1930s, showing the brand’s retro style. The case of this new timepiece is made of a mix of steel and bronze, and the innovative mix of materials presents two different look and feels. In addition, the bronze material itself is easily oxidized, and it is colored with a touch of green as time and environment changes, showing a sense of history. The grooved crown emulates an antique timepiece with a sapphire crystal glass for added sturdiness and beauty.
The case of intage Montblanc 1858 Champagne-colored Automatic Leather Strap Watch is satin-finished to reduce the effects of accidental scratches on the watch’s appearance. The lower edge of the beveled lug is polished to give it a slim look.

The smoky champagne gradient dial and the bronze bezel echo each other, with a track-shaped minute scale circle to create a retro style. The “cloisonné” designed cathedral-style pointer is full of historical charm in style, with finely polished sides that are arched and slightly raised. Arabic numerals and hands are covered with Super-LumiNova® coating to ensure a clear and intuitive reading. At the 12 o’clock position, the Montblanc classic logo style is featured, and the peak pattern of Mont Blanc is written in historical fonts.
The brand new timepiece with aged ochre calf leather strap, made by the Pelletteria leather factory in Florence, Italy, with a steel pin buckle, looks retro and stylish. This watch is equipped with an MB 24.15 automatic movement that provides approximately 38 hours of power reserve when fully loaded. The back of the watch is designed with a dense bottom to protect the interior of the movement. There are two crises in the watchmaking history, Quartz Crisis and Smartwatch Wars. Quartz Crisis defeated many of Swiss watchmakers, while those who have withstood the test of Quartz Crisis won’t fear the smartwatch war, like Rolex, Patek Philippe. Some of luxury brands have chosen to join smart watches, like IWC, TAG Heuer, Bvlgari, Breitling and MontBlanc. More and more smart watches are launched, so they cannot be ignored at present. It’s in 2015 MontBlanc released the first smart product, an e-Strap. It’s a bold try in the “explosion” period. Two years later, MontBlanc Summit Smartwatch came out. Many of watch fans didn’t know why MontBlanc would design and produce smart watches. I think that those who love the brand need a smart watch with MontBlanc culture and distinctive aesthetics. In essence, MontBlanc is a business-style brand. From pens, leather goods to fine watchmaking, every item has a close connection with business style, and MontBlanc Summit Smartwatch continues the style. The world time and variety of exterior designs make MontBlanc Summit Smartwatch popular.
1. AMOLED screen. It’s a self-luminous screen, lower power consumption, broader perspective and stronger visual contrast than traditional liquid crystal display. It has been the most potential screen material. It features 400*400 resolution ratio, multi-touch recognition, Android Wear 2.0 and 512M memory.
2. The smart watch has 4GB storage space. It can work through Wi-Fi and transmit songs, pictures and more through Blue Teeth. With the help of the built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 processor, it can connect IOS system or Android system through Android Wear. As a whole, MontBlanc Summit Smartwatch is equipped with the main-stream configuration, and it’s OK to work smoothly with most daily applications.
Watch case is at 46mm×12.5mm, not fit slim wrists, and the Summit Smartwatch by MontBlanc has the only one size. There are a crown and two holes including a loudspeaker and a voice receiver. Its waterproof level is IP68, meaning daily water resistance and daily rust protection. You will get it according to waterproof level of Iphone 7 Plus, IP67. Case is available in black PVD steel, steel and titanium. Watch bands in different colors and materials are alternative, and quick exchange device helps users to exchange another watchband.
MontBlanc Summit Smartwatch sells for 1200 dollars to 1400 dollars, while the tailor-made models are more expensive. Smart watches by Japanese watchmakers are fine, but they fit young men instead of businessmen. Those by TAG Heuer, Louis Vitton and Bvlgari are more expensive, and less functional. At some angle, MontBlanc Summit Smartwatch is the cheapest models, more luxurious then main-stream smart watches. If your wrists are board and you like MontBlanc, MontBlanc Summit Smartwatch is the best option for business elites.
Relying on Le Locle, MontBlanc opened its road to watchmaking in 1997. MontBlanc purchased Minerva located in Villeret in 2007. with the help of Le Locle and Minerva, MontBlanc has the wing at the back in the development of watch manufacturing. Many quest its future, but it launched excellent wristwatches in the decade and proved its determination and excellence. As for watchmaking, MontBlanc continues the excelsior spirit of pen manufacturing. MontBlanc Star collection has shown strong elegance and high technology since it came out, impressive deeply. In terms of materials, craftsmanship and functions, MontBlanc Star Roman Quantième Complet “Carpe Diem” Special Edition 113691 is a good choice on the wrist. It can match with suits in formal style or leisure style.
“Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero” in Latin was Horace’s motto, which means “Seize the day”. The past has become history, and what we can do is to seize the current. The Roman poet appealed to us to cherish every minute. To today, it’s meaningful. MontBlanc was inspired by the Latin warnings to create the Star Roman Quantième Complet “Carpe Diem” Special Edition. To seize every second, MontBlanc Star Roman Complication 113691 features month, day, date and moonphase. “Quantième” in French means calendar, and “Complet” means complete. From the name “MontBlanc Star Roman Quantième Complet “Carpe Diem””, we know the meaning the wristwatch wants to express. Many details echo to “Star” and the theme of seizing the day.
White Hexagonal Star
The mother-of-pearl hexagonal star on the side of the crown and the one on the moon-phase sub-dial at six O’clock highlight the outstanding heritage quality. The white hexagonal logo is the shape when MontBlanc is overlooked, symbolizing the highest mountain in the Europe and excellent quality and perfect craftsmanship of MontBlanc watch collection.
Since antique time, to explore the moon has been an interesting goal for human beings. It’s not excessive that mankind’s science began with the exploration of the moon. In ancient era, people worried about the changes of the moon. Today, although it’s a modern society, the moon is still a mystery. So, a wristwatch with moon phase adds much joy to daily life. MontBlanc reminds us of valuing the time by the moon phase.
Elegant And Functional Dial
The white dial is clear at a glance at any angle throughout the domed sapphire. The rose gold-plated hand with a red moon leads us to get the date. Rose gold-coated leaf-shaped hands and the blue baton small-seconds hand spin on the elegant dial. On seeing the dial and smart color collocation, I can’t help to praise it. The core dial decorated with guilloche and rose gold-plated Roman hour markers tell long history and add brilliance to the entire dial.
MontBlanc 1858 160th Anniversary Heritage Collection is a tribute to the fine watchmaking history of Minerva (Today’s Villeret) and climbers challenging to the World’s Seven Peaks. Inspired by the adventure world and pocket clocks and chronograph watches in the 1920s to 1930s, MontBlanc 1858 Collection 2018 is designed for modern adventurers, featuring unique aesthetic designs, complicated functions, different materials and different sizes. It not only shows vintage styles but is injected fearless adventure spirit.
Minerva whose watchmaking history dates back to 1858, is located in Villeret. In 20th century, Minerva was recognized by global watchmakers for accurate and reliable chronograph movements. Legend 19.09 with the most recognizable V-shaped chronograph baseplate bridge appeared in 1909. Calibre 13.20 by Minerva in 1920 is one of earlier manual winding monopusher chronograph movements. Calibre 17.29, at 5.6 thick, was one of the thinnest monopusher chronograph movements in the 1930s. Beyond all doubt, Minerva has a high reputation in the fine watchmaking. The World’s Seven Peaks refer to Seven highest mountains in the World’s seven continents. They are considered as the most dangerous climbing challenge in the world. To today, globally, the adventure challenges only 500 climbers to success.
MontBlanc 1858 Collection 160 Anniversary Geosphere Watch 119347 equipped with MB 29.25 by Villeret shows adventure spirit and innovative capability. MontBlanc 1858 World Time Geosphere displays the world time on two rotatory solid hemispheres. The north hemisphere at 12 O’clock rotates counterclockwise, while the other rotates clockwise. 24-houe scales look more eye-catching against black and rose gold background. The white line symbolizing the prime meridian on north/south hemisphere is coated with Super-LumiNova®. The second time zone display is set at 9 O’clock. Local date display is set at 3 O’clock. Thanks for the two hemispheres, Multiple time zones display more directly. Continents on the hemispheres coated with Super-LumiNova® have higher readability at night. The location of the World’s Seven Peaks is marked on the north/south hemisphere with red points. Mont Blanc, a compass and two ice-axes engraved on the case back symbolize the heritage of mountain adventure spirit.
MontBlanc 1858 Collection Geosphere Bronze Watch 119347 is limited to 1858 pieces in the world, water resistant to 100 meters. Bronze watch case is equipped with brown vintage calfskin strap by Pelletteria. Overall vintage scent and mature charm stand out. 42mm×12.8mm case has brushed surface, resistant to scratches. To echo to bronze case, vintage hour markers, rose gold-plated Cathedral-style central hands, rose gold-plated track-typed scale ring adorn the black dial. Reference 119347 is tested by MontBlanc Laboratory 500 Hours. What’s more, MB 29.25 by Villeret pays homage to 160-year fine watchmaking history of Minerva.
This year is the tenth anniversary of MontBlanc Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher chronograph collection. Nowadays, it has been one of the most representative models. I wish to take the chance to review its fascinating history, because it determines MontBlanc’s status and development direction in the watchmaking field.
Nicolas Rieussec And Louis Moinet, Abraham-Louis Breguet
Nicolas Mathieu Rieussec was born in Paris in 1781. Early watchmaking experiences were seldom known except that experience that he worked on watchmaking in Str. Marché-Palu located in Cité of Paris. Abraham Louis Breguet once ran his store in this area. It’s possible that they never worked together. Mr. Rieussec invented a chronograph, while Louis Moinet invented a chronometer, and Mr. Breguet chose to concentrate on the later. Later, Mr. Rieussec became a watch maker for royal courts, while Mr. Breguet became a watch maker for the Nacy.
Relationship with Royal Family
Nicolas Rieussec was famous for the “Monograph chronograph” in 1821, but the contribution he made to the watchmaking field wasn’t widely recognized. Later, he was arranged to go to Garde-Meuble de la Couronne (furniture preservation), and to manage and to look after timepieces was his job. In that period of time, he made some luxury clocks for Duck of Bordeaux and St. cloud castle, and he got a promotion soon. As a result, he became a royal watch maker of Louis XVIII of France, Charles X and Louis Philippe I, seeing the changes of dynasties.
Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher chronograph was invented in 1821 and used for horse racing. It’s hard to believe it in today’s world, but four games were held every day at Mars Square. New bourgeois was crazy about the sport, and they bet on every game. Therefore, an accurate chronograph was necessary then. Mr. Rieussec realized the importance, so he did it successfully.
Long History of Chronographs
Throughout the history, Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher chronograph is one of innovative fruits. In 1777, Jean Moïse Pouzait finished a pocket clock whose second hand worked in cease, telling time and rebooting, but the chronograph device didn’t bear “Reset”. A heart-shaped part Adolphe Nicole invented made the second hand reset, and the invention was patented on October 14, 1844. The great invention wasn’t put into use by Henri Féréol Piguet until 1962. Meanwhile, Mr. Rieussec was devoted to automatic equipment in small size.
MontBlanc Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph
The first MontBlanc Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher chronograph was released on April 7, 2008, limited to 300 pieces, including 25 pieces in platinum, 75 pieces in white gold, 75 in yellow gold and 125 in pink gold.
From MB R 100 to MB R 200
The first MontBlanc Nicolas Rieussec chronograph was equipped with in-house MB R 100, hand-wound mechanical movement. MontBlanc was preparing for another self-winding movement in the following 2-3 years. To 2010, new generation of MB R 100 was fitted with silicon escapement. One year later, MB R 200 with self wind came out, but the silicon escapement wasn’t used in it. Today, MB R 100 is not in production.
In the 1920s, Minerva succeeded in developing an hand-wound monopusher chronograph movement, calibre MB 13.20. The achievement broke the situation that the dualpusher chronograph movement dominated the chronograph watchmaking field, and and it opened the new chapter and left an indelible mark. To 2018, to celebrate Minerva’s 160th anniversary, MontBlanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph Limited Edition at SIHH 2018 is a new interpretation of the antique Monopusher Chronograph. MontBlanc Monopusher Chronograph Ref.117834 pays homage to Minerva calibre 13.20. Green dial and tone-to-tone crocodile skin bracelet reflect vintage scents, and the green dial produces gradient effect in the sun. The touch of green is like the moss growing in Minerva, bearing high readability and aesthetics. Just at first glance, you are impressed deeply.
40mm×12.15mm steel case, whose surface is treated by mirror-effect polishing and satin finishing. Two kinds of superficial effect are attractive from different angles. Especially, satin-finished sides prevent scratches. The designs for a fluted crown in vintage style and domed sapphire crystal pays tribute to antique timepieces. The polished side of the crown is engraved with a hexagram star showing the brand image. The sun-brushed green dial shows a gradient appeal from the center to periphery. The designed for antique yellow Arabic number hour markers shifting from fluorescent green is surprised by visitors. Tachymeter and two sub-dials bear track-typed scales. Cathedral-styled central hands and a white chronograph hand stand out. Many details for green dial echo to the features of antique chronograph timepieces. Hour markers and hands coated with Super-LumiNova® guarantee high readability in dark situation. The 1930-influenced brand identity is below 12 O’clock, and the central Mont Blanc stands out. “Calibre MB M13.21” at 6 O’clock tells us the movement originating from Calibre MB13.20.
Calibre MB M13.21 can be appreciated throughout sapphire case back, which is a frank vision of Minerva fine watchmaking crafts. Calibre MB M13.21 on basis of Calibre MB 13.20 is a hand-wound mechanical movement, whose structure and decoration show aesthetic design and MontBlanc’s fine watchmaking technology. It proves that MontBlanc becomes more and more professional in the watchmaking field. The movement is mainly fitted with column wheel, aclinic clutch device and Philips terminal curve hairspring, featuring 18,000 vibration frequency (2.5HZ) and 55 hour power reserve. What’s more, it has been certified by MONTBLANC LABORATORY TEST 500, and quality is guaranteed. Green crocodile skin strap made in MontBlanc Pelletteria located in Florence, Italy echoes to the vintage green dial.
By comparing to dualpusher chronograph wristwatches, MoantBlanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph 117834 is more convenient and more distinctive. More designs for vintage details make it stand out. MontBlanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph is limited to 100 pieces across the world. Don’t miss it.
Influenced by British horse racing, it was the most popular sport France in the 19th century. Four games were held every day on the Champ de Mars, and the new bourgeois is crazy about the sport, as a result, they bet much money on the horses they liked. At that time, Nicolas Rieussec realized the importance of an accurate chronograph, and he invented it in 1821. Thus, Nicolas Rieussec became a influential figure in the watchmaking field. To pay homage to Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph, MontBlanc Star Nicolas Rieussec chronograph collection stated to be launched from 2008. Let’s focus on Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Watch U0102337.
Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph
As a royal clockmaker, Nicolas Rieussec invented the Monopusher Chronograph to be used for horse racing at first. When the starting gun goes off, ink-drop chronograph will start. It means that two enamel dials (60-second counter and 30-minute counter) start working. When horses arrive the final line, it’s OK to press the button. Then the pointer connecting an ink sac will point to the rotating disc because of pressure. Finally, the mark an ink drop leaves will tell the time. The invention by Nicolas Rieussec was honored as “Time Writer”, so the inventor created the word “chronograph” according to Greek words “chronos (time)” and “graphein (write)”. To 1822, the invention was patented by French Academy of Sciences, so Nicolas Rieussec is the World’s first patented inventor.
Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Watch U0102337
MontBlanc Star Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Watch U0102337 is a new interpretation for Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph invented in 1821. MontBlanc Star Nicolas Rieussec collection has been loyal to the original edition since it started to be in production in 2018. The difference from common chronograph wristwatches is that the traditional central chronograph second hand. The collection features a 60-second rotary sub-dial at 8 O’clock and 30-minute sub-dial at 4 O’clock and eccentrical dial displaying dual tones. When two chronograph counters stop, the fixable pointers will tell the final numbers. It’s the reason why Mont Blanc Nicolas Rieussec is so popular and distinctive.
For reference U0102337, mirror-polished case, 43mm, comes with black crocodile skin bracelet. It’s a pity that the bracelet cannot be comparable to case, dial and movement, because its comfort level is less perfect. Well-polished case and lugs show modern ans stylish designs. The iconic design for the dial continues with the collection. The single timekeeping button bears three purposes: start-pause-reset, and he position is convenient for the thumb in right hand. Reasonable layout and uniqueness of dial are impressive deeply. The eccentrical dial displaying home time and the second tone helps a lot for men that often go abroad. The aperture at 9 O’clock displays day/night for home time, and the aperture at 3 O’clock tells date for home time. The fluted crown laid with MontBlanc logo in mother-of-pearl shows brand image and influence power. Sapphire crystal makes users feel how MB R200 works. The self-winding mechanical movement with 40 jewels, at 8.46 thick, supplies reference U0102337 with approx 72-hour power reserve.

MontBlanc Heritage Chronométrie EXO Tourbillon Slim
Released by MontBlanc Villeret in 2010, The EXO tourbillon is a patented device that the bridge is placed outside the framework. The invention makes framework become smaller, so the patented tourbillon saves more power reserve. On the other hand, the bridge won’t be influenced by inertia of frame so that accuracy is improved well. MontBlanc Heritage Chronométrie EXO Tourbillon Slim comes with in-house MB29.24, and the self-winding movement (the micro rotor included) can be visible through sapphire case back. Close up and more details show up, like Satin-finished rhodium-plated balance wheel, rhodium-plated micro rotor and EXO bridge, mirror-finished balance wheel.
